This animation was created to help demonstrate how a thromboembolism can travel to the brain, block an area of the brain responsible for a specific function, and create symptoms that a trained physician can easilly recognize as a "stroke in progress" or "transient ischemic attact" (TIA). Prompt recognition and treatment of the clot with thrombolytics or anticoagulants that will promptly dissolve the clot and restore blood flow can result in little or no permanent injury. In contrast, if a person fails to seek medical attention in a timely fashion or if a physician fails to promptly recognize the symptoms of a stroke in progress and/or fails to promptly treat the stroke, the injuries can worsen and become permanent.
